About the artist:
Javier Calleja was born in Malaga, Spain, where he continues to live and work. He rose to art world prominence thanks to his easily recognizable figurative works, which frequently features squat, wide-eyed characters that have exaggerated proportions. Javier practice spans works on paper, sculpture, and painting, as well as a range of editioned work and merchandise. Javier has had exhibitions in Barcelona, Paris, Hong Kong, Madrid, New York, other major cities, and now Vancouver. He is extremely reputable internationally and his work is loved by many.
In March 2021, Javier’s secondary-market broke the record of US$1 million for the first time as his 2019 painting Waiting for a While sold for HK$8.8 million, which is roughly US$1 million. Ever since then, his work often sells over US$1 million.
